Religious Deconstruction: A Challenge for Believers

If you are on social media you will see that religious deconstruction is a popular theme right now. People raised in the church or raised in a Christian home are looking at their lives and what they believe and many are walking away from the church. Unfortunately, another common theme I have been seeing is that we as believers are letting people walk through this time of deconstruction completely alone. We are afraid of their questions and concerns about their beliefs and how the church is being run. Do you know who isn't afraid of their questions? Here's a Sunday School answer for you...Jesus. We as believers shouldn't be afraid of their questions either. We should come alongside people when they are in a time of questioning and walk with them through it. Could they still walk away from the church? Absolutely, but they shouldn't walk away feeling like they were not loved and cherished. We should continue to love them and have a relationship even after they leave.

My challenge to you fellow believer is to know what you believe. Ask the same questions that they are asking and seek the Lord for an answer. My second challenge for you is to share your testimony openly. Far too often in the church, we know that others in the church are believers but we don't know their story or how they came to follow Jesus. We need to practice sharing our story with each other so that when it comes time to share with someone who is struggling in their faith or a spiritual conversation with an unbeliever is happening, we are ready to not only share what we believe but what Christ has done for us. Of course, we should share our stories in person with each other and unbelievers. One place we can start is on our own social media. Let's make a theme that people see be our Christ rescue stories!

You can start simply with, Before Jesus, I was fill in the blank, After Jesus, I am fill in the blank. You can also elaborate some but still keep it short...or you can do like what I'm going to do in my next post and give your testimony in full. Let's make Jesus and the beautiful salvation he offers trend on social media. #shareyourstory Let us love on those who are asking questions whether they have been a part of the church their entire lives, just walked in the doors, or someone in your community who has never stepped foot in a church and doesn't plan to, someone who may fear that would never be welcomed within the walls of the church.

"By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another." John 13:35 AMP #shareyourstory
